Background

Automobile Division of Honda Motor Europe is responsible for the development and delivery of “New Business” strategy across 16 markets in Europe with the overall aim of creating new customer experiences around Digital platform, Future retail and Connectivity applications.

After rolling out its Pan-European digital platform in 2012 to 2015 that supports all product divisions i.e. Cars, Motor Cycles and Power Products, Honda is now looking to evolve its website strategy to ensure it is fit for future business requirements whilst continuing to deliver a consistent brand experience.

In 2018 HME started a long term project around Future retail. The idea is to transform the current business model of HME, Branches and Dealers. The first significant step is the roll out of Reservation scheme for Honda e. Then new functionalities will enhance the customer journey such as Online Finance calculator and Lead management.

My Honda was been launched in 2017 as the first initiative of “Vehicle and Connectivity”. With the launch of Honda e model, we will get the first Telematics Control Unit (TCU) and enter in the new world of Connected Cars. 

The Role

The New Business Department Manager will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing new Digitalisation tools towards full online sales capabilities. The role will also develop application of Connectivity and make recommendation of new business models from Data. The role will also enhance common digital systems architecture for Europe to ensure an efficient web presence across the region. 

 

It is a very visible role throughout both Honda Motor Senior management, HME head office and each branch.  It will require collaborative and influencing skills to ensure smooth implementation of strategy and delivery of Future retail experience, Connectivity applications and new web based systems, apps or digital platforms.

This role is leading HME Automobile Division for CASE and especially C for Connected, S for Shared and E for Electric. A for Autonomous will come after 2025.  Because of the strategic content of the role, this role reports directly to the General Manager of Automobile Division. The role will be supported by 4 team members.

To fulfil this role, the applicant must have successfully worked autonomously and be fully self-responsible. Furthermore, it is a must to have experience in leading business and teams, even under very tight deadlines during peak-times and within the given resources by keeping the focus on right priorities to avoid business critical situations.

 

Main responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to the definition and development of the Future retail, Digital and Connectivity Strategy of Honda in Europe including Brand and Product Launch strategy through the active involvement with Automobile Division departments such as Marketing team, Product Planning, PR but also Honda Motor and Branches.
  • Create strategic recommendations for the implementation of online sales for the Automobile Division in Europe
  • Define roadmap for the delivery of Honda digital CRM strategy / Lead Management
  • Lead the completion of all digital systems projects working with HME ISD, and manage the sign off process. Working closely with the Marketing team, activate digital content to support both brand and product launch strategies across platforms, developing and implementing digital campaigns requiring combined strategic and technical skills
  • Manage effective relationships with supply partners which deliver value and quality and in particular lead and challenge the appointed Digital agencies to ensure maximum delivery effectiveness
  • Manage the digital team as well as the Future retail Section manager and Digital and Connectivity Section manager allocating and prioritising workload for all digital activities and workflows.
  • Monitor the substantial Digital and Future retail budget as per HME governance.
  • Investigate New business model solution and analyse the business impact of new disruptive technology (electric cars, car sharing, connected cars, etc.)
  • Define new Operational KPI. Develop daily/Weekly dashboard to highlight performance for senior management. Establish the digital platform analytics tools
  • Update and improve current online sales platform to ensure constant improvement of customer experience & sales

Skills:

  • Strong appetite for New Ways of Working, Change Management.
  • Pan-European or International experience is essential.
  • Strong project management expertise, including experience of agile methodology – preferably with previous experience of being a Product Owner.
  • Experience of creating and managing the sign off process of business cases and strategies with top management stakeholders in order to continuously enhance Future retail and Connectivity project as well as Central digital platform
  • Natural communicator and negotiator with strong influencing skills, able to build and maintain good relationships across all cultures and disciplines
  • Capable of presenting to a range of audiences including internal meetings, agencies and external conferences with presence and style
  • Budget Management experience, financially and commercially astute with the ability to manage a considerable budget position
  • Deep understanding of Traditional Customer journey of dealer operations and Branch organisation.
  • Fluent in English language, one other relevant language skill is preferable.
  • Proven and established Leadership- & Management-Skills that complement and instil Honda philosophy and Honda’s core management principles
