Role: 

Racing is central to Honda’s story. On both 2 wheels and 4, Honda uses racing activities to promote its ‘Advanced and Sporty’ and ‘Kotozukuri’ brand positioning. From Formula 1 and Moto GP, through to WTCR and MXGP – no other brand is involved in as many international championships as Honda.

 

Drawing on the expertise of the wider corporate communications team in the areas of content creation, event management and social media, the role is responsible for the creation of a class-leading communications programme to harness Honda’s involvement in world championship racing for the benefit of the brand. The position is also crucial in guiding local branches in their racing activities, to ensure that national activity is appropriate and the benefit is maximised.

 

Main Responsibilities:  

  • Creation of the annual pan-European motorsport activity plan, in conjunction with automobile and motorcycle division
  • Act as secretariat of the pan-European ‘Racing committee’, the key decision making forum for Honda’s involvement in regional and local championships
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in Honda’s global motorsport teams (HRC, Red Bull, Toro Rosso etc..) to ensure  
  • Responsible for Honda Motor Europe’s relationship with its specialist motorsport communication agency
  • Support wider corporate communications team in using motorsport activities and athletes to benefit the launch of new products
  • Lead on pan-European motorsport events, ensuring clear communication of key messages with support from Events team
  • Set clear annual targets and KPIs for motorsport activity using established media measurement techniques across PR and Social spaces
  • Work with wider business to ensure clear link between motorsport activities and digital platform for both automobile and motorcycle
  • Act as a key link to championship press officers, ensuring maximum benefit
  • Support Internal Communications Manager in the communication of Honda motorsport activities to associates, to improve staff morale and foster feeling of ‘one Honda’
  • Responsibility for motorsport communication budget management
  • Ensure robust crisis management plan in place for any on track issues
     

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Enthusiasm for working within motorsport communication, experience of a similar role a bonus
  • Understanding of the development of communications plans in a pan-European context
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder management across a number of levels of the organisation
  • Comfortable with briefing creative agencies, with an understanding of what it takes to communicate key messages through a range of different media
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent project management skills
  • Fluency in another language a bonus
  • Availability to travel Internationally
