Role:

Legal manager will handle compliance matters, mainly data protection and EU competition law, and a wide variety of commercial law, civil litigation related to all business divisions of the Honda Group throughout Europe.

 

This role is expected to understand that compliance work, which is work to make sure Honda complies with internal & external rules and regulations, which is not limited to provide legal service, but also solving the compliance issues with ownership.

 

Reporting to the Head of Legal, Legal manager could develop his/her skills throughout wide variety of work. This is a role with high responsibility attached that provides an excellent opportunity for the Solicitor to develop their skills and to contribute as part of a dynamic and ambitious in-house legal team.

Main Responsibilities:   

Compliance work: 

  • With proper awareness of compliance issues, , take ownership to provide not only a legal advice, but also solving compliance issues in order to maintain and improve the level of compliance of Honda. This is mainly related data protection and competition law.

Contract work:

  • Drafting, negotiating and advising on all types of commercial contract across the EU including e.g. agreements regarding supply of goods/services, IT projects, confidentiality, marketing, agency, consultancy, sponsorship, outsourcing, franchising, logistics, manufacturing, motorsports etc.;

Honda Corporate Governance work:

  • Manage and facilitate HCG (Honda Corporate Governance self-assessment), GCP (Global Confidentiality Policy) GDPR (Global Documents Retention Policy), and EPL (Ethics Proposal line. 

Legal advice:

  • To provide legal support on GDPR  compliance to Regional and local data protection managers and Honda associates

Run PDCA:

  • Throughout daily work, identify issues and analyse cause to propose countermeasures for continuous improvement of work

 

Issuing policy and provide training:

  • Legal and compliance policy development and review.
  • provide legal training

 

Management work:

  • In order to provide inconsistent output from legal members, manage legal members work
  • Manage the work of external legal counsel on a Pan-EU basis, where appropriate.

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Qualified solicitor in the UK (or equivalent legal education and professional recognition).
  • Significant PQE.
  • In-house exposure is essential to this role. Experience in the automotive sector would be an advantage.  
  • A sound understanding of all aspects of commercial law and compliance and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically in a business environment.
  • Experience of working on GDPR, general data protection regulations and EU competition law
  • Experience of working on/managing matters with a cross border and foreign jurisdiction element, and managing external legal counsel.
