The European PR Communications Section Manager role is responsible for the development and delivery of messaging and activity plans that result in high impact coverage across European media. . Leading a team of Communications Managers, this role is instrumental in coordinating Honda’s PR activities for its automobile range.


Main responsibilities:

  • Lead PR input into automobile ‘SP’ (Sales Planning) flow
  • Supported by the European PR Communications Manager and colleagues in automobile division, R&D and Honda Motor, develop product messaging that guides the creation of visual and written assets.
  • Socialise product messaging to wider Corporate Communications team and to key branch PR contacts
  • Working together with Communications Section Manager and Events & Governance Section Manager, develop a comprehensive activity plan for the launch of new vehicles
  • Ensure synergies with other areas of the business (social media, automobile marketing communications, motorsport etc..) during content creation activities
  • Develop newsworthy, impactful activity plans to maintain media coverage on vehicles beyond their launch window
  • Provide brief to Communications Section Manager for insight into the performance of launch and lifecycle campaigns, completing full review on all activities.
  • Lead the development of content and messaging for international motor shows and PR event activities (preview events, press drives etc..)
  • Review and action opportunities for ad-hoc activity to generate incremental PR coverage
  • Coordinate with other areas of the business (Automobile, Motorcycle, Power Product, Customer, Motorsport, Honda Accessories R&D etc.) to understand their key objectives and how their activities can be used to benefit corporate communication activity
  • Responsible for the management of Product Communications and ‘Central Services’ budgets, ensuring commitments to the company on spend levels are met consistently.
  • Line management responsibility for two associates


Skills requirements:

  • Team management experience essential
  • Strong written skills preferable
  • Journalistic background useful, but not essential
  • Ability to manage a roster of visual and written content agencies
  • Manage feedback from a variety of stakeholders, and ensure this is reflected in final output
  • Strong understanding of the creation of impactful visual and written content for use by European media
  • Knowledge of the changing use of digital and social media
  • Project planning, management and logistics skills, an eye for detail
  • Creativity and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Understanding of wider context that Honda automobile division sits in
  • Relationship management skills, able to work with PR teams and agencies at a number of different levels of expertise across Europe
  • Knowledge of key important European automotive media outlets
  • Fluency in European languages other than English is a bonus
